Bybrook Refugee Crisis Support Network Update 1
There are a few immediate things that we would like to do, and then for those who would like more information I will send a further detailed summary of the possibilities we discussed last night.
- We would like to put together a register of skills that people might be willing to offer to refugee families if they are placed locally to us. This might be help with understanding legal documents, finding doctors, helping to look at school applications. These are just a few examples, but if you can offer something (it would need to be on a voluntary basis please) then there will be no irrelevant offers. Please contact me and let me know and so that we can create a pre-emptive list.
- There has been talk of trying to provide some housing in the local area that the local authority could use to accommodate refugees on a long term basis (5 years). We have already had one very generous offer, but if you feel this might be an area that you would like to support financially again please do let me know.
- We were fortunate to have Rachel Molano with us last night, and she will be going out to the camp at Calais and will bring us up to date reports of needs and prayer requests from the camp. Please do pray for her as she goes out.
With many thanks

Date Change for Biddestone Harvest Safari Supper and Auction
Due to the clash of dates with the England vs Australia rugby match on 3rd October, we have revised the date of the Harvest Safari supper and an auction of gifts and promises and will be holding the event on Friday 2nd October instead. All funds raised will go to St Nicholas.
The evening will start at 7pm at the Oak House with drinks where people can view and bid for the auction lots and draw the location for their main course and pudding from a hat.
The main course will be served at 8pm and at 9pm, people move on to their pudding location. All then gather back at the Oak House at 10.00 for coffee and port where Richard Madley has kindly offered to round off the auction and draw the final bids on each lot. Anyone with mobility problems can stay at the Oak Hose for their meal.
We will be displaying the bid sheets in St Nicholas during the week before the supper and people will be able to see what is available and place written bids.
We have already received some very generous pledges, including:
- A two hour professional photoshoot for up to four in a local garden or area of your choice.
- A lawnmower service.
- A meal for 2 with a bottle of wine at the Crown at Giddea Hall.
- A hamper from the Allington Farm Shop.
- Two Christmas cakes.
- A cake a month for a year
- A series of textile art pictures.
- A lift to and from Bristol Airport for up to 4 people.
If you would like to pledge a promise or a gift to be auctioned, please let us know what you would like to offer. Pledges could be for anything really but for instance babysitting, baking, gardening, shopping, hospitality, music or computer lessons. Gifts could be art or craft items, whatever you like!
Tickets are £15 each person, BYO wine for the main course and pudding. All funds raised will go to St Nicholas, Biddestone.
If you are able to make a pledge or for tickets, please contact Simon or Charlotte on 01249 716330 or simon.bruce@btinternet.com.
